Attendance Policy for Students
I agree with Professor Newton's attendance policy. If you can find a documented reference to his policy and bring it to share with the class, I will reward you with 25 points extra credit (good for the first documented reference per semester only). I assume that students understand it is in their own best academic and financial interests to attend every class meeting. I also understand that students have families and other obligations which might make it impossible for them to
attend each and every class meeting over the course of a semester. You are the best judge for ranking competing priorities in your own life and I will not deduct points from your grade for absences. However, if you take a test late (for any reason) I will automatically deduct points out of fairness to the other students who did not have the same amount of time to prepare for it. For this reason, you need to carefully evaluate your state of preparation for an exam and if you must take one late, be sure that you really make time to study for it. If is highly likely that any absences will hinder your performance in this course as you miss information when you are not present to participate in class. It is your responsibility to get notes from another student when you miss a class.
