  1. How do I become a tutor for the Academic Learning Center?

    You will receive a letter inviting you to an informational meeting. At that meeting, you will learn more.

  2. What types of tutoring opportunities are available?

    Private tutoring, small group, drop-ins, review sessions, and classroom assistants are available positions

  3. What is OPTO?

  4. How do I get paid? When do I get paid?

    Private tutors are paid by the tutee. For other assignments, the tutor keeps a log or attendance form, and once every two weeks you fill out time sheets. This sheet is submitted. Tutors are paid by check, one week later.

  5. Is any paid training available?

    All training is paid. There are four sessions which take place every semester.

  6. Do I have to complete any work authorization forms in order to get paid?

    Yes, everyone fills out a form once a year for each budget area: ALC, McCann, Special Services, Housing, etc..

  7. How do I get my tutoring assignments?

    You will be called with students' names, numbers, course, instructor and payment method.

  8. How often do I meet my tutor and for how long?

    We recommend that you meet once or twice a week for about an hour or two at a time.

  9. Am I responsible for the grades my tutees earn?

    Absolutely not. You are simply a helper - only a student is reponsible for the grade he/she receives.
