Using Formations to Determine Factorizations
A finite group G admits a proper factorization if there are proper subgroups A and B of G such that G = AB. It can be a daunting task to determine if a finite group G admits a proper factorization and to determine whether a specific proper subgroup H of G is part of a proper factorization for G. This talk will introduce the group theoretic concept of a formation and then use a specific formation to gain a solution to the above stated problem.
