A Discussion of the Difference Equation
![]()
The equation in the title is an example of a difference equation. On one level, it is just a formula for generating a sequence of numbers (in this case, positive integers). However, in general, difference equations have just as many applications as differential equations. In this talk, we will compare our equation to its (similar looking) predecessor. We will discover some interesting facts about both equations and learn what makes our equation so much more challenging than the other. Also, we will see how to use simple technology to generate solutions. This can be used by students and faculty in an attempt to observe patterns and make conjectures.
