The Green's Function: Weak Solutions to Boundary Value Problems
We have been exposed to classical ways of solving differential equations, but are there other ways, i.e. "weaker ways", involving distributions and other compact supported test functions? This discussion will be on the Green's Function method of solving boundary valued problems, and will explore the fascinating world of "integration by parts" with the use of delta functions. The talk will be geared towards bridging the gap between classical and "weak" solutions to ODEs. Time permitting, we may also go into how we can use Green's Functions for eigenfunction expansions of PDEs.
