Shannon C. Walker is a senior communication major with a television production concentration and a psychology minor. This summer, Walker worked for Rivera Live, the news-based talk show airing on CNBC. While assisting the news associate of the program, Walker learned several skills in news research, script writing and editing.                Lauren K. Penna  is a communication major with a journalism concentration and Spanish minor. Penna is a junior and plans on studying in Leeds, England at the Trinity and All Saints College for the spring. While in England she also plans to backpack around Europe. This past summer she was an intern at NH Outlook for New Hampshire Public Television. Her duties included logging tapes, editing sound bytes and reporting on the Seacoast. Penna is a staff writer for Marist's newspaper, The Circle, is active as a Campus Ministry member and works at the Marist Institute for Public Opinion. She enjoys hiking and spending time with her family and friends.   Rob McGuinness  is sophomore majoring in communications with a journalism concentration. Since 1999,  McGuinness has spent summers working as a staff writer and editor-in-training at The Middletown Press, a daily JRC newspaper based in his hometown of Middletown, Connecticut. At The Press, McGuinness has written numerous general news, business and sports stories, including feature coverage of the 1999 and  2001 Canon Greater Hartford Open PGA golf tournaments. On campus, McGuinness is the manager of the  cross-country and track teams, a sports writer for The Circle and editor of G.C. Monthly, a publication of  the Gartland Commons Resident Student Council. An avid athlete, McGuinness is a competitive distance  runner, a weekend golfer and a former basketball player and coach. In addition to his athletic pursuits,  McGuinness is a musician (specializing in piano, keyboard and guitar), as well as a record collector and fan  of classic rock and oldies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                    Christina Quinci, a junior at Marist, is a transfer student from a local college. She is an English writing major with a minor in journalism and plans on receiving her B.A. in Spring, 2003. At Quinci's previous college, she was very active as a tutor in the Writing Center. Although Quinci does not plan on becoming a teacher, the experience of shaping and critiquing other people's writing found her interested in editing. After graduation she plans in working for a magazine or a newspaper in the editing field.                      Ed Williams III is a communication major with a journalism concentration and a writing minor. Williams has been the Editor-In-Chief of the Shelton High School Gael Winds, is the current Managing Editor of Marist College’s Circle, has had an internship in the Sports Department at the weekly Valley Times and has worked as a correspondent for the Daily Connecticut Post. At the Post, Williams covered local municipal meetings and special events as well as covering the police and court beats of the towns of Derby, Seymour and Oxford. As a high school junior, Williams attended the Washington Journalism Conference in the nation’s capital where such speakers as Senior White House Correspondent Helen Thomas and controversial online journalist Matt Drudge spoke, and as a senior he placed second in a state-wide Hartford Courant contest for review writing on a piece critiquing MTV music videos. After college, he plans on becoming a reporter at a daily newspaper and eventually an editor at a major-market newspaper. This Shelton, Conn native is also secretary of the Marist Bowling Club and a DJ for WMCR, Marist College Radio.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                                 

 

 

 

                   

           Emily Criscione is a senior fashion-merchandising major with a journalism concentration. She was an intern for two Farichild Publications this summer, W Magazine and Children's Business. At W she was a fashion assistant. She aided in several photo layouts. At Children's Business, she was an editoral intern. Her duties consisted of working on the copy for the September issue and supervising photo shoots.                   Scott E. Desiere, a 20-year-old communication student with a passion for journalism, also writes a weekly sports column for the Circle, Marist College’s student newspaper. A political science minor, Desiere is also interested in public relations and broadcasting. Desiere has an infatuation for sports and athletic competition that he hopes will someday help him rank among America’s top sports writers or publicists. He can be seen announcing games on various Marist College Television sports productions as well as heard discussing the world of sports on the airwaves of 88.1 WMCR every Monday evening. Originally from Marlboro, NJ, Desiere was recently inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the national honor society for communication students, and will be presenting the findings of a research paper before the National Communication Association at its national conference this November in Atlanta, GA. Desiere, who played football and baseball while in high school, competes in many of Marist’s intramural sports leagues and can regularly be found working out at the gym.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                Michael Turpin is a junior communication major with a history minor. Primarily interested in feature writing more than newspaper work, his goal is to work for a major sports or entertainment magazine. Turpin is also an employee of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, where he gathers information in a number of polls. A wrestling fan since the age of eight, he would also love a job with the World Wrestling Federation. Turpin is an avid Kansas City Royals fan who won his fantasy baseball league last season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

         

 

 

 

 

              Katherine Slauta is a communication major with a journalism concentration. She also has a Spanish minor. In January, Slauta will study abroad in Madrid, Spain at the University of Complutense. The Marist junior plans to work as a foreign correspondent as a print journalist. She is currently the features editor for the Marist College campus newspaper, The Circle, as well as the president of the college's Gaelic society. Slauta works for the Marist Institute of Public Opinion, as a polling supervisor. She is a resident of Natick, Massachusetts.
