You may purchase the text online for a choice of new or used copies that can be obtained via the internet from random booksellers.

Our reading requirements are to be found in two sources, the textbook as well as online. The text covers the entire span of Russian history
From 1855 to the present. The two authors view Russia with great objectivity, fairness and balance. Especially well done is the section on the
Collapse of Soviet Communism. It clearly explores the politically complex Experience following the breakup of the Soviet Union, discussing the
Chances of Russia becoming a more stable and prosperous country In the near future.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

All lectures will be accompanied by an interesting/informative audiovisual Format to enhance retention of information and salient facts. A discussion
session will be set aside for a give-and-take analyses of topics being Covered in reading assignments. In preparation for our first meeting (6/02/07),
please access your computer to obtain the following essay assignment, Andrei Sakharov’s Nobel Prize Lecture entitled “Peace, Progress and Human Rights”
