Eosinophil and Basophil

This smear shows an eosinophil on the right and a basophil on the left. Its large reddish orange cytoplasmic granules can help to identify the eosinophil. The basophil has dark purple/black cytoplasmic granules that often obscure the nucleus. Both have segmented nuclei. The eosinophil nucleus most often has only two segments. Eosinophils constitute 1-6% of total white blood cells, while basophils constitute 0-3%.
