| This is a bone marrow preparation illustrating a megakaryocyte. Megakaryocytes are normally found only in the bone marrow. They are very large, multinucleated cells (giving the nucleus a lobular appearance) with granular cytoplasm. Clumps of cytoplasm break off from the parent cell and enter the peripheral blood as platelets. |
