Normal Lymphocytes

These four images display normal lymphocytes found in peripheral blood. Their appearance can vary. Nuclear shape can be round, oval or slightly indented. Nuclear color is usually dark purple with Wright's stain and the cytoplasm stains a pale blue. Nuclear chromatin is usually dense and cytoplasm may contain nonspecific granules. Red cell size can be judged by comparing the red cell to the nucleus of a small mature lymphocyte. They should be about the same size.
