Orthochromic normoblasts with pyknotic nuclei
The arrows point to two orthochromic normoblasts with pyknotic nuclei. At this stage, the cell extrudes the nucleus. This happens normally in the bone marrow and the remaining cell, the reticulocyte, exits the bone marrow and enters the peripheral blood. The large cell in the center is a basophilic normoblast and the cell between the two arrows is a polychromatophilic normoblast.
