| The arrow points to a reticulocyte. These are young red blood cells, having just lost their nucleus. They are found in peripheral blood in small numbers (0.5-1.5% of circulating red blood cells). These cells are slightly larger than mature red blood cells. They have a slight bluish tinge with Wright's stain, due to remaining reticular material. |
